چکیده
Background The use of coercion in the treatment of persons with serious mental illness is a long debated strategy to gain adherence to treatment for persons believed to be cognitively impaired by their illness. This article examines the psychometric properties of a scale developed to measure perception of coercion. Using a psychometrically sound scale found to be both reliable and valid in a specific sample of men and women from New York State, we found no difference in perception of coercion between those courtordered to remain in treatment following hospital discharge and those persons receiving outpatient treatment without a court order.

The sources of coercion may be the legal system, the family, the health system, or self-criticism (internal sources). Here, we studied patients diagnosed with substance use disorders that were involuntaril...
متن کاملType Coercion from a Natural Language Generation Point of View
We discuss the question of how phenomena of type coercion (TC) can be integrated into Natural Language Generation (NLG). The ultimate goal is the generation of expressions that instantiate type coercion in cases where such expressions are the most natural verbalization for a given piece of information. Our approach is an extension of the SPUD NLG system developed by Matthew Stone. This system i...
متن کاملAdolescents' perception of coercive treatment: conclusions and clinical implications
Results The adolescents' experiences of coercion show a wide variation that didn't correspond very well with the formal situation. Coercion was experienced in many ways and was also valued quite differently with respect to the impact of the treatment in their lives. The adolescents' experience of participation in the planning of the treatment was very sparse. The requirements for participation ...
